History

In the summer of 2007, five families began meeting to share their visions and develop plans for a new school for the Greenwood area. Three main guiding principles provided direction for the new enterprise:

  • The school would be independent and accountable to parents as parents are ultimately responsible for their children’s education.
  • Academic integrity would not be compromised. A rigorous college preparatory education would be provided.
  • A Christian education in a warm nurturing Christian environment would be provided.

After contacting multiple churches and researching other location options, the Steering Committee met with representatives from Hyde Park Baptist Church. The congregation was excited about having a school in its facility and within a few weeks, details of the relationship were finalized. Enrollment began in February 2008, and the school opened its doors in August of 2008 to 36 students in K4 through 12th grade! By God’s grace, enrollment has grown each academic year with an annual increase averaging about seven new students per year.

After ten years of growth, it became clear that we had outgrown our current facility and would have to find a new location to accommodate future growth. The Lord led us to a new home at Grace Community Church. We will always be thankful to Hyde Park Baptist Church for their hospitality. With much prayer and planning, the move to our new facility at Grace Community in the summer of 2018 became a reality.

From its inception, Palmetto Christian Academy of Greenwood has been committed to making its education accessible to as many families as possible. Our tuition assistance program provides need-based scholarships to approximately 25% of our families. Over the years, these scholarships have enabled many children to access a quality, Christian education who would not have been able to attend without such assistance.

PCAG became a member of the Association of Christian School International in its first year. Just three short years later, in 2010, PCAG achieved accreditation by SC Independent Schools Association and SACS. PCAG was accredited by Advanced in the fall of 2018 and by the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) in January of 2019.

By 2022, PCAG had 127 students enrolled in grades K3-12 with 27 faculty and staff. Approximately 80% of our faculty are certified to teach by ACSI with many holding advanced degrees. We have a licensed Preschool for PreK3 and PreK4 students.

We actively compete in 6 sports (Cross Country, Swim, Volleyball, Boys and Girls Basketball, and Track) and hope to add Soccer as our 7th team by Spring of 2024. We offer other extracurricular activities focused on Academics, Leadership, and the Arts.

In 2022, God called a new Head of School to PCAG. Dawn Dobbs Smith joined the PCAG staff in June 2022. Dawn brings a background in business, admissions, church ministry, and school leadership. She is excited to help us grow our academics, discipleship, and enrollment. As we enter our 15th year of ministry to students, we are excited to see what the Lord will do!
