Physical activity helps students remain both physically and mentally healthy. Studies show that an increase in physical activity increases brain activity. As such, PCAG encourages students to be active. One of the ways this is done is through the Running Club, an after school activity for elementary students that takes place from 3-3:45 on Mondays and Wednesday.
The Running Club program began in 2013 when third grade teacher Nancy Sprouse saw a need for a program that would give students attending after school an opportunity for more physical activity. It soon became clear, though, that more students were interested in participating in the program. What began as a program for just the usual 12 students who attended after school became a program that averaged 40 students in attendance. Now, nearly all elementary students attend this activity, excited for the chance to spend time together having fun outside of the classroom setting.
