Battle of the Books

Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program that takes place across the nation for students in grades 3-12. Students come together to demonstrate their reading comprehension abilities and to test their knowledge of the books they have read. The teams of up to six students are given a list of 20 books to read prior to the competition, and then they are asked specific questions about the books to earn points.

PCAG's State Championship
Battle of the Books Team

In previous years, PCAG has had teams competing on both the high school and middle school level at the S.C. Independent School Association’s Battle of the Books competition. The high school team in particular has performed very well, winning the state championship for the 2017-2018 school year and coming in 3rd place for the 2018-2019 school year.

This year's competition dates are TBD. Below you can find a list of the books for both middle school and high school level.

All interested parents and students should contact us for more information.

What students learn

Students are introduced to quality pieces of literature through Battle of the Books that they may not otherwise read. These include both fiction and nonfiction pieces of literature, and the selections cover a wide range of genres. Students can go back in history or forward to the future with the selections on this list.
